The wave is officially back. After serving 18 years behind bars, Harlem rapper Max B celebrated his long-awaited freedom with a surprise appearance at the New York Jets vs. Cleveland Browns game at MetLife Stadium. Fans across the hip-hop world flooded social media with excitement, welcoming the return of one of Harlem’s most iconic voices.

Max B, born Charly Wingate, was seen reconnecting with family, friends, and fans — marking the beginning of his new chapter. Dressed head-to-toe in Louis Vuitton, the 47-year-old stopped by The People Gallery on Instagram for a quick chat and style check. When asked how it felt to finally be free, he smiled and said, “I feel righteous. I’m feeling good, I’m grateful, I’m thankful. God is good.”

He also shared some fashion advice,  staying true to his confident and authentic personality: “Just be yourself. Get what you can afford, and wear what you wear. If it looks good on you, own it.”

Beyond the style and celebration, Max B made it clear he’s ready to jump back into music. Calling himself his “own favorite rapper,” he invited top artists to collaborate: “Anybody that can keep up with the boss don, any A-lister, look me up. I’m gonna get you wavy.”

Why Was Max B in Prison?

Max B originally faced a 75-year sentence for conspiracy, murder, and robbery charges. However, a 2016 plea deal overturned his previous convictions, drastically reducing his time behind bars and paving the way for his release in 2025.

New Beginnings for The Wave

Now a free man, Max B seems focused on peace, positivity, and progress. He’s even expressed interest in ending his long-standing feud with Jim Jones, his former Dipset collaborator.
“Jim said a bunch of hard things about me — but it’s all love,” Max B said. “I want to start over. I’m a new man, a married man, a father of four. I’m just here to get my money and ride into the sunset.”

With his freedom regained and a new outlook on life, Max B’s comeback marks one of the most anticipated returns in hip-hop. Harlem’s wave is officially back — and it’s only getting stronger.
